Cock & Bull 101:
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month after 7 pm at Monkey Paw Pub & Brewery in San Diego. From 7-8 pm beginners can learn and the experienced can play for fun with other fans of the game. If you have a game board of your own, please bring it along, it always helps to accommodate all the players!
The Cock & Bull Cup:
Even a beginner can win this monthly modified double-elimination style tournament. Nothing is required to join in, just show up, sign up, and then play with us, the bracket has room for up to 24 players! The tournament begins right after 8 pm and the winner will get a cool prize!

The Golden Goblet of Glory:
Affectionately known as "The Cup," this hand made,
1 pint tankard serves as a traveling trophy and a symbol
of the Cock & Bull Cup defender. A tournament winner
immediately becomes the defender of the cup, and
retains the vessel of victory until the next tournament.
Should the defender be defeated by a challenger,
the cup will pass on to a new Champion.
Tradition holds that only cup defenders are allowed to inscribe their name on the cup, and this happens immediately after the tournament ends right inside the pub! Plus, the player who shows up and wins the most games during the year keeps the cup and we start with a new one next year!

We had 16 players in the September tournament, which made for a perfect bracket! With 16 players, nobody gets a bye, and everyone has an equal opportunity to take home the cup. Jack emerged victorious in 4 games to take home his second cup win of the year at Monkey Paw. Meanwhile, Mallorie and Nancy both came into the tournament with 5 wins a piece for the season, that put them in a tie for the Summer Growler! Both won their first game in Round I, then fate paired them up in Round II! Congratulations Mallorie!

In this 17-player bracket, 15 random players had a bye in Round I, leaving 2 players to fight for a spot in Round II. Mallorie, who has so far entered every tournament this year, won four games in a row to take the cup home for the first time. The Spring Growler was still in limbo until the tie-breaking sudden-death growl-off game between Alex D. and Jack took place after the regular tournament had ended. Alex D. emerged victorious to claim his second growler in two years of competition.

The new year brought in some new players at Monkey Paw. Curious onlookers who came over to look at the new large poster-sized bracket were encouraged to join us and try their luck. As seems to be the norm, beginners luck was a definite advantage for two new players who ended up playing each other in the final. Player of the Year, Alex D., took home the 2014 cup for good with a record of 15 & 8.
